Laser hair removal is actually a very safe procedure when precautions are executed properly. The laser itself is a pure high intensity beam of light and poses no threat of cancer or other maladies.

The laser can only penetrate the first layer of the skin so the only potential problems are a result of reactions by the skin. The only dangerous area are the eyes and goggles are used as a precaution during laser facial hair removal.

Safe as it may be, there are still some risks to using laser treatment. During the procedure, too much exposure creates pale patches on the skin but these effects are usually temporary and will fade away within a short period of time.

In some cases, the laser is focused too long and can cause blistering. Even rarer are cases of scaring from over exposure but it takes quite a bit for the laser to cause that kind of effect. Dark skin is more at risk than light skinned patients.

In the case of a person being too darkly toned, the patient may be disqualified for laser hair removal treatment because the high concentration of melanin in the skin can cause problems with the laser. Another disqualification is anyone with skin that is overly sensitive to light.

If a potential patient hair an infected area to be treated they are automatically rejected until the infection is cleared. This adds unnecessary health risks that no doctor will agree to. Also, any person that has had isotretinoin acne treatment in the past year will not be eligible.

While laser hair removal and electrolysis are two methods touted as permanent hair removal methods, it may not necessarily be the case with laser treatment. The hair will sometimes re-grow, but if and when it does it will consist of thinner hair. While laser cannot completely stop the hair from growing back, especially with the first few sessions, it slows the re-growth of hair so it can take several months or even years for the hair to show.

Proper precautionary measures must be taken when undergoing any type of bodily alteration procedures. To protect the eyes, goggles may be required for facial hair removal. Some patients report a stinging or tingling sensation in a wide range of intensities.

The length of each session depends on the amount of work to be done and can last between fifteen to forty-five minutes. There will be multiple repeat sessions required for each area that is treated. Not every treatment is the same and you can expect different results with different treatments.
